About NOOK Prefab Garden Rooms
What is a NOOK prefab garden room?
A NOOK is a premium prefabricated garden room designed and manufactured in Spain by Intergen Ventures SL. Each unit arrives fully assembled and is installed in your garden in under 24 hours, including screw-pile foundation. Unlike a standard garden shed, every NOOK is a fully insulated garden room with double glazing, thermal and acoustic insulation, and an Energy A rating — built for comfortable year-round use as a garden office, studio, guest room, or leisure space.
What sizes and models of prefab garden rooms are available?
NOOK Prefab offers three modular garden room models:
- NOOK Base — a single-module garden room of approximately 9.7 m², ideal as a garden office pod, creative studio, or personal retreat.
- NOOK Doble — a double-module prefab garden room of approximately 19.5 m², large enough for a self-contained guest suite, pool house, or spacious home office with meeting area.
- NOOK Sauna — a dedicated outdoor sauna garden room with thermowood interior, electric heater, and panoramic glazing.

How does a NOOK differ from a standard garden shed or summerhouse?
A conventional garden shed or summerhouse is typically single-skin timber with no insulation, making it uncomfortable in winter and stifling in summer. A NOOK prefabricated garden room is a fully insulated, double-glazed, energy-rated structure designed for daily use in any season. Key differences include: multi-layer wall insulation, aluminium-framed double-glazed windows, integrated electrics, and a screw-pile foundation system included in every installation. It is a habitable space — not storage.
What materials is a NOOK garden room made from?
The external cladding uses sustainably sourced thermowood (thermally modified timber) as standard, which is naturally rot-resistant and requires minimal maintenance. An optional upgrade to Millboard composite cladding provides a timber aesthetic with zero maintenance. The walls feature multi-layer insulation (thermal + acoustic), the windows are double-glazed aluminium-framed units, and the roof is finished with a durable EPDM membrane. This construction gives NOOK its Energy A certification and makes it a true insulated garden room rather than a basic shed.
What warranty comes with a NOOK garden room?
Every NOOK comes with a comprehensive 3-year warranty covering the structure, cladding, glazing, and all factory-fitted components. Manufactured and quality-controlled in Spain by Intergen Ventures SL, with direct customer support — no intermediaries or subcontractors.
Pricing, Ordering & Timelines
How much does a prefab garden room cost?
Garden room prices start from approximately £33,500 for the NOOK Base and from approximately £50,700 for the NOOK Doble (GBP pricing; USD equivalent available at checkout). These are fully installed, turnkey prices that include screw-pile foundation, crane delivery, positioning, and all electrical connections. Use the online configurator to build your specification and see an exact price with your chosen extras.
How does the reservation and deposit work?
To reserve your production slot, you place a fully refundable deposit online. Once your deposit is received, our team schedules a technical feasibility check of your site (photos of access, ground conditions, and any overhead obstructions). If the site is not viable, or if you simply change your mind, the deposit is refunded in full within 7 days — no questions asked. Once confirmed, the balance is invoiced according to a clear payment schedule before delivery.
How long from order to installed garden room?
Typical lead time is 8–12 weeks from confirmed order to installed garden room. This includes 6–10 weeks of manufacturing in our factory in Spain, followed by international shipping and a 1-day on-site installation. The screw-pile foundation is prepared approximately one week before your delivery date. Exact timelines depend on your configuration and current production schedule — check current availability.
What is included in the garden room price?
Every NOOK garden room price includes: the fully assembled structure with insulation and double glazing, screw-pile foundation, crane delivery and installation, internal electrics (lighting, sockets, consumer unit ready for mains connection), and exterior cladding. Extras such as a terrace, solar panel kit, air-source heat pump, sloped roof upgrade, or Millboard composite cladding can be added through the configurator.
Installation & Delivery
How is a prefab garden room installed?
NOOK garden rooms arrive fully pre-assembled from our factory in Spain. Installation is a three-stage process: first, screw-pile foundations are drilled into your ground (no concrete, no excavation) approximately one week beforehand. On delivery day, a crane lifts the complete garden room from the lorry and positions it onto the foundations — typically taking 30 minutes to 2 hours. Our installation team then completes all final connections, sealing, and quality checks. The entire on-site process is completed within a single day.
Do I need to prepare my garden before installation?
You do not need to level or excavate your garden. NOOK's screw-pile foundation system adjusts to uneven ground and slopes. After you place your reservation, we request photographs of your garden — including access routes, ground conditions, overhead cables, and any obstructions — to confirm feasibility. If minor preparation is needed (for example, trimming overhanging branches for crane clearance), we'll let you know in advance.
What site access is required for delivery?
The delivery lorry and crane require road access to within reach of your garden. You'll need a minimum of approximately 3.5 metres of width for the vehicle, plus roughly 5 metres of overhead clearance (no low cables or branches). Tight turns, narrow lanes, and sloping driveways are assessed during the technical feasibility check after reservation. Each case is studied individually — if access is challenging, we'll discuss solutions with you before proceeding.
Planning Permission & Regulations
Do I need planning permission for a garden room in the UK?
In many cases, a prefab garden room falls under Permitted Development rights in England and Wales, meaning no planning application is required. General conditions include: the garden room must be single-storey, must not cover more than 50% of the curtilage, must not be forward of the principal elevation, and height restrictions apply (2.5 m at the eaves near a boundary, 4 m maximum with a dual-pitched roof). NOOK Base and NOOK Doble are both designed as single-storey structures well within these limits. However, rules differ for listed buildings, conservation areas, and certain local authorities — we always recommend checking with your local planning department. NOOK provides full technical documentation to support any application if one is needed.
Does a NOOK garden room need building regulations approval?
In the UK, standalone garden rooms used as ancillary accommodation (home office, gym, studio) generally do not require building regulations approval provided they are under 15 m² and not used for sleeping. For larger garden rooms or those intended as habitable guest accommodation, building regulations may apply. NOOK provides all technical specifications, structural calculations, and energy performance data to support the process. Requirements vary — confirm with your local authority building control.
Do I need a permit for a prefab garden room or ADU in the US?
ADU (accessory dwelling unit) and garden room regulations in the United States vary significantly by state, county, and municipality. States such as California, Oregon, and Washington have relaxed ADU rules in recent years, while others have stricter zoning requirements. NOOK provides detailed engineering documentation and structural specifications to support your local permit application. We recommend checking your local zoning ordinances or consulting a local permit expediter before ordering. NOOK is designed as an outbuilding or accessory structure — not as a primary dwelling.
Year-Round Use, Insulation & Energy
Can I use a NOOK garden room all year round?
Yes. Every NOOK is a fully insulated garden room built for year-round comfort in any climate. The multi-layer wall, floor, and roof insulation combined with aluminium-framed double-glazed windows delivers an Energy A certification. In summer, the insulation keeps the interior cool; in winter, it retains heat efficiently. For active climate control, an optional air-source heat pump provides both heating and cooling with minimal energy consumption — making your garden room comfortable whether it's a January morning or an August afternoon.
Can a NOOK garden room be off-grid or self-sufficient?
Yes. NOOK offers an optional solar panel kit with battery storage that provides enough power for lighting, sockets, and device charging. Combined with an air-source heat pump for climate control, your garden room can operate independently of mains electricity. This is particularly popular for garden offices, creative studios, and retreats located further from the house. Mains connection is also straightforward if preferred.
Uses, Customisation & Modules
Can I expand or add modules to my garden room later?
NOOK's modular garden room design means many extras can be added after installation — including a terrace, decking, shade sail, or solar panel kit. However, the decision between a single-module (Base) and double-module (Doble) configuration must be made at the time of order, as the modules are structurally connected during manufacturing. If you think you may want the extra space in future, it's worth choosing the Doble from the start.
What can I use a prefab garden room for?
NOOK garden rooms are designed as versatile, habitable outdoor spaces. The most popular uses include:
- Garden office pod — a quiet, insulated workspace separate from the house, ideal for remote working.
- She shed or man cave — a personal retreat for hobbies, reading, or relaxation.
- Pool house — a stylish changing room and lounge beside the pool, available with optional bathroom.
- Insulated playhouse — a safe, comfortable play space for children that can be used all year.
- Guest house or granny pod — a self-contained living space for visitors or family (NOOK Doble with bathroom and kitchenette options).
- Creative studio or gym — a dedicated space for art, music, yoga, or exercise.
What extras and customisation options are available?
NOOK offers a wide range of customisation through the online configurator. Options include: terrace or covered porch, Millboard composite cladding (zero maintenance), sloped roof upgrade, panoramic glazing, solar panel kit with battery, air-source heat pump (heating and cooling), custom furniture, and internal layout configurations. Every NOOK is configured to your specification before manufacturing begins.
Is a NOOK suitable as a garden office or home office pod?
Absolutely. A NOOK is one of the most popular choices as a garden office pod in the UK. The acoustic insulation means video calls and focused work are not disrupted by household noise, while the double glazing and climate control options keep you comfortable year-round. NOOK Base (9.7 m²) comfortably fits a desk, chair, and storage for a single professional. NOOK Doble (19.5 m²) suits two workstations or a combined office and meeting area. Integrated electrics include ample sockets and lighting — simply connect to your mains supply.
Can I use a NOOK as an outdoor sauna?
Yes. The NOOK Sauna is a purpose-built garden sauna featuring thermowood interior cladding, an integrated electric sauna heater, panoramic glazing, and proper ventilation. It delivers an authentic sauna experience in your garden with the same premium build quality, insulation, and one-day installation as every NOOK model. Unlike barrel saunas or DIY sauna kits, the NOOK Sauna is a fully enclosed, insulated structure you can use year-round.
Can a NOOK be used as a granny pod or accessory dwelling unit (ADU)?
The NOOK Doble (19.5 m²) is well suited as a granny pod or small accessory dwelling unit. With optional bathroom, kitchenette, and air-source heat pump, it can serve as a self-contained guest house or annexe in your garden. It provides independence and privacy for elderly family members or guests while keeping them close to the main house. In the US, ADU regulations are rapidly evolving — check your local zoning requirements. In the UK, using a garden room as sleeping accommodation may require building regulations approval.
Why Choose NOOK Prefab
How does NOOK compare to other prefab garden room companies in the UK?
NOOK Prefab differentiates on three key points: factory-assembled quality (your garden room is built in a controlled environment, not on-site in variable weather), one-day installation (most UK garden room companies require 1–3 weeks of on-site construction), and all-inclusive pricing (foundation, delivery, crane, and installation are included — no hidden extras). The Energy A-rated insulation, 3-year warranty, and direct-from-manufacturer model (no dealer network) also set NOOK apart from traditional UK-built garden rooms and imported flat-pack alternatives.
Why choose a prefab garden room over a traditional brick extension?
A traditional brick extension typically requires planning permission, months of disruptive building work, and significant cost. A prefabricated garden room from NOOK is installed in a single day with minimal disruption, often under Permitted Development rights (no planning application), and at a fraction of the cost. While a brick extension adds permanently to the main building, a NOOK garden room sits independently in the garden on screw-pile foundations — adding functional living space without altering your house.
Does a NOOK garden room include a foundation?
Yes. Every NOOK installation includes a screw-pile foundation at no additional cost. Screw piles are drilled into the ground without excavation or wet concrete, making them faster, cleaner, and less disruptive than traditional foundations. They also make the structure technically removable if ever needed. Foundation preparation takes approximately half a day and is scheduled about one week before your delivery date.
